Temporary links expire; the original destination does not

A short address is convenient in a message about an upcoming event or meeting. It is not a permanent address, and it does not make the destination private or delete its content later.

Choose a lifetime that fits the message

ToolRoof links start with a 24- or 48-hour lifetime. Extensions are limited to two and to a total of 7 days from creation, not unlimited renewal whenever expiry approaches.

Do not put an expiring link on a long-lived sign or printed item. State an understandable expiry time when the recipient needs it, and retain a suitable original address for sharing if necessary.

Link lifetime and content access are separate

Deletion or expiry stops the short link opening its destination. It does not delete the other site’s page or recall a copy from someone who already obtained the original address.

If a document must be private or available only to named people, enforce that in its hosting service. Do not put passwords, recovery links or sensitive details into the destination just because the short link expires.

A shared link does not certify its destination

The service stores the destination to operate the link, and management belongs to the browser that created it. Clearing its data removes management access but not automatic expiry. Destination removal is not instant erasure from every backup; the privacy policy describes retention.

Visitors see the destination before continuing, but that is not a safety verdict. For a suspicious message, verify the sender through a channel you know rather than entering account or payment details on the strength of a short-link brand.

Example: a link for an upcoming meeting

If a link is created on 1 October at 10:00 UTC for 24 hours, it expires on 2 October at 10:00 UTC unless extended within the limits. A 48-hour choice expires on 3 October at the same time.

The original meeting information page may remain available afterward; only access through this short link has ended. If the invitation will be printed and distributed for a full week, do not rely on an initial one-day lifetime.
