Extract ZIP: inspect what came out, not only what downloaded

Downloading ZIP is not the end of receiving a delivery. The useful result is a set of files you can open and use. Give them a separate location and check their count, types and meaning before mixing them with existing work.

Compressed size is not extraction space

Expanded size can differ greatly from archive size, and programs support different compression methods. A small ZIP can therefore be rejected for its contents or structure, not only its visible size.

If the download is incomplete, request a complete copy from its source. Avoid repeated uninformative retries and do not enter a confidential password into unfamiliar services to try to open it.

Successful extraction does not authorize every use

Do not run an unknown file just because it arrived inside an archive. Know the source, use an appropriate viewer and do not grant extra permissions merely to get past a warning.

This ToolRoof path extracts allowed types within its limits. It does not open encrypted archives, every compression method or executable files. Rejecting out-of-scope content is not a reason to disable protection.

Check organization before replacing anything

This path returns files with ordered names; it does not restore the original folder tree and filenames unchanged. A software project or website that depends on paths needs a different restoration workflow.

Match each item to its contents, especially when the same basename appears in different source folders. Keep the archive until the review is complete and do not overwrite important local work merely because a name looks similar.

Example: what does archive size tell you?

An illustrative archive of 600000 bytes with 12000000 bytes of extracted contents expands by a factor of 20. This demonstrates arithmetic, not a prediction for every archive or permission to exceed service limits.

If it contains photos/front.png, photos/back.png and notes.txt, expect three files, not four; the folder is not another file. Open the pictures and notes to verify meaning even when the extraction path gives them ordered filenames.
